Truck places clean fill into area where chromium-impacted soil and debris were excavated during final phase of cleanup.
Work winding down
at Metropolis Towers
JERSEY CITY, N.J., May 8, 2014 – Workers are preparing to construct a parking lot in an area that was recently excavated as the third and final phase of PPG Industries’ chromium cleanup at Metropolis Towers nears an end.
PPG is placing clean fill in the northern half of the property between the residential towers, an area where the company has dug up and hauled away chromium-impacted soil and debris. Later a concrete sidewalk joining the two buildings will be installed as well as pavement accommodating more than 80 new parking spaces.
PPG officials said vehicles displaced during the current phase of work should be able to resume parking onsite in June.
Air quality since last March, when the cleanup began, has remained well within the safety limit established by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection in consultation with the independent technical consultant. Click here for more details.
