PPG nears completion of Carteret Avenue dig
JERSEY CITY, N.J., Nov. 5, 2019 – Workers are nearing completion of a 1,000-foot long excavation of chromium-impacted soil and debris in Carteret Avenue between Garfield and Pacific avenues.
More than 45,000 tons of material will have been transported for disposal at regulated landfills when the cleanup is scheduled to be complete next month.
The excavation began in early June after PPG reached an agreement with the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority on a plan for digging up and hauling away impacted material on top of and beside a 96-inch sewer line buried more than 15 feet beneath the street.
